Prof.
Dr. Donald Kaiser is retired and lives in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales,
Australia. He retired there with
his wife, Denise, after two years as Director and Advisor on Drug
Development for Roche Pharma Japan, Tokyo.
Since joining F. Hoffmann-La Roche, Basel Switzerland, in 1989, he
had been Head of Epidemiology in the Department of Drug Safety, Deputy Head
of Global Drug Regulatory Affairs, and Director of Global Biometrics.
He was a Founding Member of the International Society for
Pharmacoepidemiology, and served that Society as Head of the Education Committee, for two terms on the Board of Directors, and as Vice President,
and member of the Executive Committee.
Prof.
Kaiser trained in Sociology and Economics at the University of Pennsylvania,
where he graduated cum laude, and
in Health Services Research and Organisational Behaviour at the University
of North Carolina School of Public Health, where he was awarded a Masters
and a Doctorate. Prof. Kaiser
was, for 12 years, on the faculty of the University of Virginia School of
Medicine, where he was Professor of Medicine, founder and head of the
Division of Information Sciences and Biometrics, and for a four-year period,
Director of the Outpatient General Medical Service.
Prof. Kaiser has authored or co-authored over 250 peer-reviewed
scientific articles, with special focus in the areas of hospital infection
control, endocrinology, diagnostic cardiology, and adult immunisation.
