Fred
Sorenson has more than 26 years of experience working on behalf of the
pharmaceutical and medical device industries. He began in the business by
working in the field of health economics and was one of the co-authors of “EUROCARE”,
a book that systematically examined the health care systems of 5 key European
countries. During this time he also assisted in building medical expert systems
such as DOC (Doctor’s Office Computer system), creating medical and
biostatistical models including COMCON (Computer for Medical Congresses), a
state-of-the-art scientific database and interactive tool on antibiotics that
was sold in over 50 countries and worked on creating global value dossiers.
In addition to this health economic background, Fred has closely been involved
with designing, running & analyzing clinical trials, especially the
late-phase studies that help provide the additional evidence for reimbursement,
including economic elements such as resource utilization and Quality of Life. He
has worked in a wide variety of capacities including biostatistician, data
manager, auditor, medical writer and project manager for a broad range of drugs/devices
and indications. Another area that distinguished Fred was his involvement in
lending support and performing clinical studies in less developed countries, and
as a result has worked extensively in diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis,
leprosy and HIV in Africa, Asia & Latin America.
Prior to joining the Genesis BioPharma Group as General Manager, Fred served for
more than 13 years as General Manager of the European office of an international
evidence-based research company with a staff of over 30 persons in addition to
being responsible for global business development within the entire organization.
Prior to that Fred worked for 10 years at a contract research organization in
Switzerland where he was VP and Head of Biostatistics.
Fred received his BSc in both Psychology and Philosophy from the University of
Southern Colorado and did his post-graduate work in Sociology and Economics
(Thesis on “Registration of Vital Birth Statistics in Nepal”) at the
University of Basel in Switzerland. Among various associations, he is an active
member of International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR),
serves on the board of the Basel Biometric Society (BBS) and is one of 2 Swiss
representative to the European Federation of Statisticians in the Pharmaceutical
Industry (EFSPI) where he also chairs the External Affairs committee.
